Naismith goes on a mazy dribble forward, with Lukaku being picked out well. The Belgian keeps play moving out to the right flank, but an eventual cross from out wide is cut out. Everton's spell of pressure ends with Jagielka curling a 20-yard effort hopelessly wide.
38'Naismith is picked out by a ball over the top, with Smalling unable to keep pace with the Everton striker. De Gea, however, is quick off his line to gobble up the danger. Martinez is looking extremely concerned on the sideline, as the Toffees have wandered their way through the first half.
36'Good clearance from Smalling! Galloway whips a cross in from the left flank, with the ex-Fulham man lashing a dangerous cross away. The resulting corner is met by Naismith, but the Scottish forward is penalised for leaning into De Gea, however.
34'Narrowly over 10 minutes remain in the first half, with Everton still being caught on the break. Man United are setting up camp with a nice spell of possession, as the Toffees struggle to piece together meaningful attacks. The home supporters are grumbling.
32'McCarthy comes across to slide in and deny Martial, with the ex-Monaco striker unable to force himself into the equation thus far. Man United haven't created many chances since doubling their lead, but Van Gaal will be very pleased with how his side have kicked on from the international break.

The Toffees maintain their pressure, with the Irishman then able to whip a delivery in from out wide. Lukaku and De Gea challenge for the cross, with the goalkeeper taking a stray arm to the face from the former Chelsea striker. Jones is still receiving treatment on the touchline.
28'Galloway and Naismith combine down the left, but a flick from Barkley is easily intercepted. Everton just aren't getting a foothold in the midfield battle, with Martinez perhaps needing to think about re-setting his stall for the second half. Jones is forced to remove himself from the field, with the Englishman picking up a rather fierce nosebleed.
26'Lukaku is picked out by a lofted pass upfield, with the Belgian striker able to flick a nice header towards Naismith. Smalling recovers well to hook a last-ditch clearance away from the Scottish forward, with the England international having a very solid start to this contest at the heart of the visitors' defence.
24'Lukaku goes down in the opposition penalty area, but the Belgium international doesn't get anything from the referee! He has been dealt with physically by Smalling and Jones, with the Toffees' target man failing to have a real impact on proceedings.

20'Everton now have to try and fight their way back into this contest, with Man United able to sit back and perhaps try their luck at breaking at pace instead. Martinez will not be too pleased with his side's start at Goodison Park, as Barry and McCarthy are yet to take control of the game in the centre of the park.

GOOOOOOOOOOAL! SCHNEIDERLIN OPENS THE SCORING! The French midfielder is on hand at the back post to guide a great finish inside the far post! Smalling picks out the ex-Saints man, who slots beyond Howard to give the Red Devils an early lead!
17'Stones does well to lash a dangerous cross away, with Lukaku chasing the long ball upfield. Smalling shifts a pass back to De Gea, with the ex-Chelsea striker continuing to have to race around feeding off scraps. Herrera unleashes a good strike from around 25 yards out, but Howard does well to palm a save over his crossbar!
16'Smalling manages to Lukaku to a ball forward yet again, with the former Fulham defender doing well to contend with the ex-Anderlecht striker. Man United are having more of the possession, but Everton's quick breaks forward are keeping De Gea on his toes.
14'Barkley bursts into a dangerous area on the edge of the penalty area, but the Englishman sees a shot charged down easily. Moments later, Naismith is felled by Schneiderlin, with the visitors surrendering a free kick to the Toffees. Lukaku shoots, with a deflection off the wall wrongfooting De Gea - but the ball skips the wrong side of the upright!
12'Lukaku is fed into a dangerous area, but Smalling does well to jostle with the lone striker and pressure him into taking a poor touch. Jones mops up the scraps, with the former Blackburn Rovers defender able to cushion a header back to De Gea. The Belgian forward is being fed in behind enemy lines regularly now.
10'Darmian plays a neat one-two with Herrera, before the former Torino defender's cross is missed by Rooney! The Italy international put in a lovely ball, right in between the hosts' defensive line and Howard. The Red Devils are playing much of the better football thus far, with Martinez gesturing wildly.
8'Martial goes on a good run down the left channel, but Coleman matches the Frenchman for pace! The Irishman shields the ball back to Howard, who kickstarts an immediate counter. Lukaku is fed in behind enemy lines, but De Gea is alert to the danger and quick off his line to deny the Belgium international. Mata then whips a cross in towards Rooney, but Jagielka clears. (GOAL)
