The Italy international will be sidelined for 20 days with a thigh problem suffered in Wednesday's pre-season meeting with Lechia Gdansk
Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has been ruled out of the Supercoppa Italiana clash with Lazio on August 8 through injury.
The Italy international, who missed the Champions League final in May with a calf problem, hobbled off just eight minutes into the Bianconeri's friendly win over Lechia Gdansk on Wednesday.
Juve have now confirmed that the versatile centre-half will now miss the trip to Shanghai and faces a race against time to be match fit for the Old Lady's Serie A opener against Udinese on August 23.
"Giorgio Chiellini did not take part in training [on Thursday], having left the field during the game against Legia after just a few minutes of play," read a statement on the Italian champions' official website.
"The exams that he underwent today have shown a grade one lesion on the rectus femoris on his right thigh.
"The defender is expected to be out for around 20 days."
Chiellini's absence represents a selection headache for Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri, given centre-half Andrea Barzagli will also miss the Supercoppa with a thigh problem.
