The Brazilian accepts his side were poor against Sporting Gijon but insists the man in charge is the right one to lead the team forward
Real Madrid full-back Marcelo has backed "amazing" Rafael Benitez to get the best out of the squad this season.
The former Liverpool and Napoli boss saw his first Liga game in charge of Madrid end in disappointment as they were held to a 0-0 draw by a spirited Sporting Gijon side, despite hitting 27 shots over the 90 minutes.
Marcelo has acknowledged the need to improve upon that performance and is fully confident that Benitez is the right man to ensure they do.
"We weren't at our best in that game but we're going to take away the positives and get better. It was just the first game, we have a lot of time ahead of us," the Brazil international said to reporters at a sponsor event.
"There's a good feeling in the squad. Benitez is an amazing coach, very competetive. He talks to us a lot and shows us where we have to improve, he's on top of it all to make us better."
Marcelo, who scored a sublime winner in the Bernabeu Trophy clash against Galatasaray this month, is eager to continue improving his personal form.
"I'm always trying to get better. I'm at the best club in the world and that helps a lot to keep giving my best for the fans," added the 27-year-old.
"I've been congratulated a number of times on my goal in the Bernabeu Trophy match, but that's in the past now. My mind is focused on continuing to improve in each game."[GOAL]
