Rooney returns for Manchester United

The England captain returns to action after an ankle injury but the club's summer signing from PSV must make do with a place on the bench at Goodison Park

Wayne Rooney returns for Manchester United as they take on Everton on Saturday but there is no place in Louis van Gaal's starting XI for Memphis Depay.

The striker missed England's Euro 2016 qualifiers with an ankle injury but is fit enough to start for his club as they take on his former side at Goodison Park.

The visitors make four changes from the side that lost 3-0 to Arsenal before the international break with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Morgan Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera all returning to the side.

Everton, meanwhile, start with Romelu Lukaku up front while Gareth Barry becomes only the second player to make 550 Premier League starts.

Everton XI: Howard, Coleman, Stones, Jagielka, Galloway, Barry, McCarthy, Naismith, Barkley, Lennon, Lukaku. Subs: Joel, Kone, Mirallas, Deulofeu, Osman, Mori, Browning.

Man Utd XI: De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Mata, Herrera, Rooney, Martial. Subs: Johnstone, Blind, Carrick, Lingard, Pereira, Fellaini, Memphis. (GOAL)
