Frank Lampard is focused on building up his fitness before the US top-flight resumes in March, and Manchester City have offered him a place in first-team training
Manchester City have extended an open invitation to Frank Lampard which would allow the former England midfielder to train at the club's facilities during the Major League Soccer off-season, according to Goal.
Lampard made it clear last week that he would not make a playing return to the Premier League - either at City, where he spent last season, or at Chelsea, where he made his name during a 13-year association - when the MLS season ends later this month.
The 37-year-old has struggled with calf and hamstring injuries since officially joining up with New York City in the summer, and only completed his first full 90 minutes for the club at the end of September.
He therefore intends to rest and build up his fitness ahead of the league's resumption next March, ruling out a loan move of any sort: “I need the rest to be fully fit next year for the club," he said.
“My aim now is to manage myself well for next season, to finish this season on a high, have some breaks at times, but keep ticking over, have a really good pre-season and throw everything into next year."
City have thrown open their doors to the midfielder in a bid to aid his return to full fitness, offering him a place in first-team training and full use of the City Football Academy facilities.
Lampard is expected to return to Britain during the MLS off-season in order to see his partner, television presenter Christine Bleakley, who often works out of the BBC's studios in Manchester, and two young daughters.
City are currently scheduled to play seven games between December 5 and January 2, meaning Lampard would be thrown into a hectic environment should be take up the club's offer over Christmas.
