EGUMA THRILLED WITH EGWIN’S TREBLE AGAINST NASARAWA UNITED

The Port Harcourt side handler has thumbed up his striker after his goals helped his 10-man team beat Nasarawa United on Sunday

Dolphins head coach, Stanley Eguma has hailed the brilliance of Ifeanyi Egwin whose hat trick helped his side tame Nasarawa United 3-1 in a NPFL Week 20 tie played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday.

The Pride of Rivers had to endure a torrid time after the Solid Miners went ahead in the 15 minutes from the penalty spot with captain Sunday Rotimi given the marching order.

Eguma told Goal that he was very happy that his wards rose up to the occasion despite the odds against them while praising the performance of Egwin whose hat trick handed his side the maximum points.

The former U23 coach said he never doubted his but he asserted that Egwin needs to be more consistent and also put his act together for him to achieve greatness in the round leather game.

“I have been working with Ifeanyi Egwin for quite some time now and I know his impeccable talent on his good day,” Eguma said.

“I was not surprised he scored three goals against Nasarawa United but he needs to put his act together and not allow himself to be preoccupied with non-essentials.

“He had problem recently putting his head down because of the financial challenges in the team. He allowed it to disturb him but we thank God he is back and has shown that he has the interest of the team at heart with his display against Nasaarawa United.”

Esosa Igbinoba shot the Lafia side into the lead in the 18th minute but Egwin scored three goals in the 34th, 35th and 59th minutes to turn the game in favour of the Port Harcourt side.

The win took Dolphins to 18th on the log with 20 points from 20 games. The Pride of Rivers have a tough away tie against Kwara United in Ilorin on Wednesday.
